About Isla Mujeres

Transportation will be coordinated to pick you up at the airport in Cancun and transfer you to the Ultramar ferry in Puerto Juarez. I have worked with this company since 2010 and send them all of my business so they take great care of my guests. We are also personal friends and we work as a team whenever there are hiccups or delays. All that to say, nothing to worry about. The name of the transfer company is At Your Service Cancun.

Safety : Isla Mujeres is a 5 mile island with low to no crime. Crime of opportunity is pretty much all that we have. We know bad things happen everywhere, but for the most part, don’t buy drugs, don’t join a cartel, don’t drink and drive, don’t leave belongings unattended… you’ll be fine. There is a Navy Base on the island that is also a training facility so an extra layer of security. Also, if you were a criminal on a 5 mile island, where would you go? All that to say, I have lived here for 13 years. Be smart.

Money : We do operate on Mexican Pesos, but most places do accept USD, but a very low exchange rate. If you bring USD, you can exchange it on the island for pesos. Credit Cards are not widely accepted, but it is becoming more available. Most of your costs will be taken care of through me to provide more convenience.

Weather

Overall, the best time to visit Isla Mujeres is during the dry season, from December to April, when temperatures are comfortable and rainfall is minimal. However, even during the rainy season, Isla Mujeres is a beautiful and welcoming destination, and visitors can still enjoy plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures.
Hurricane season in Isla Mujeres, Mexico, runs from June 1st to November 30th each year. This is the time of year when the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea are most likely to experience tropical storms and hurricanes. During this season, the weather can be unpredictable, and there is an increased risk of storms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds.
If you plan to travel to Isla Mujeres during the hurricane season, it’s important to keep an eye on weather reports and to be prepared for possible weather disruptions. You should also consider purchasing travel insurance that covers weather-related cancellations or delays.
It’s worth noting that while hurricanes can be dangerous and disruptive, they are not a common occurrence in Isla Mujeres. The Mexican government closely monitors weather conditions and provides timely updates and warnings in the event of a hurricane or tropical storm. In the unlikely event that a hurricane is forecast to hit Isla Mujeres, authorities will issue evacuation orders and take other measures to protect residents and visitors.

Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres is a small, beautiful island off the coast of Cancun, Mexico. The name means “Island of Women” as it was discovered in March of 1517 by Spanish Explorer Francisco Hernandez Cordova. Upon his arrival, they found female shaped representations of the goddess Ixchel, the Mayan Goddess of fertility, reason, medicine, happiness and the moon.
The Mayan history of the island is prominent even today, however was once called Ekab. What’s left of the Temple is located at the South point of the island.
The island is about 5 miles long and less than a mile wide in some areas. You can feel safe knowing that the Naval Base located on the island is also a training facility. Crime is relatively low on Isla. Crime of opportunity being most common. Mostly, the islanders want their island to be safe and are proud to call it home.
